Whirlwind day
The winter season of events is officially spinning— and yesterday was one of those days with numerous events happening in a whirlwind.
New Wings of Middleway officially took flight in the afternoon. Community Justice and Mediation (CJAM) celebrated Breadfest in the early evening (delicious!) And over at Tutto Bene a fundraiser was held for Democratic candidate for Governor of Indiana, Jill Long Thompson…the fundraiser was hosted by tons of local Democrats–a mix of both elected and faithful party supporters.
My friend Gretchen and I played music (as ‘Mitten’) for the first two events— and then dashed over to Tutto Bene at around 8:30 to unwind and catch up over a glass of wine.
While most of the Democrats had vamoosed, we were pleasantly greeted by the candidate’s campaign staff and City Council President Dave Rollo!
I cranked out a check for Hoosiers for Jill Long Thompson, of course, and then while sipping a delicious glass of brut sparkling cold goodness, had a chance to catch up with friends. Lucky for me and my friend, we were introduced to the beautiful people: young whippersnappers working for Jill. A young woman named Lisa pretty much made our jaws drop when we learned of her previous political work out on the east coast (some people are clearly natural born policy wonks!) and now we’re all looking forward to keeping in touch about the Hoosiers for Jill campaign and other various aspects of involvement in politics.
Emily’s List was a big influence upon Lisa…and in Bloomington, Emily’s List has proven very, very effective…it’s no wonder that Jill Long Thompson was ahead of the curve in Monroe County since she was our keynote speaker at the Democratic Women’s Caucus fundraiser just this past summer!
I had a brief conversation with the tired stragglers making their way out of Tutto Bene post the fundraiser for Jill—those hardcore local Democrats who tirelessly make things run, flow, and happen…and was pleased to know, as an aside, that the contingency happens to be of an Obama supporting mindset. The scoop is that the Indiana University Students for Obama group on campus has it goin’ on…
And City Councilman Rollo promised to look at my previously posted link about other counties that have worked on climate change resolutions, etc…
Yesterday’s whirlwind of events created a lot of momentum AND I even got to float some accordion melodies around in the midst of it all! What fun!
